Our Comfort Cub

Many people have emailed me asking about the Comfort Cub we photographed in Christian's garden. The funeral director told us about this little bear...and Ryan and I thought it would be great to have something that is a part of Christian that we could hold and cuddle. I can tell you, Ry and I hold him every single day... there is much comfort in having our little bear with us. The cub has a brass heart shaped locket in his chest which holds some of our son's ashes. The locket can also be engraved.

For Christian's remaining ashes, we put them in a marble baby block which the cub keeps vigil over... This memorial for our son keeps him near to us always....

That is the neatest little bear. I had thought of going to Build a Bear workshop and putting Jenna's urn inside one of them, but I haven't decided if that's what I want to do or not. It's adorable though.

What a special way to remember Christian. I love the idea of the bear. We were given a very cute bear when Samuel was born and I remember holding it when my arms literally ached to be holding a baby...I almost felt embarassed to be cradling a teddy bear as I did things around my house...but my body literally ached to be holding the baby I had lost so the bear seemed to help the intense physical longing. I had no idea how many physiological mothering instincts would come out after giving birth..and they all had to go unmet. It felt like an itch that couldn't be scratched.

My husband is a woodworker and made a beautiful little box to put our sons ashes in. We then had him buried in our small rural cemetary next to three generations of my family. I love the idea of some of Christians ashes being in the bears heart...a way to keep his memory close. God Bless

I am so sorry for the pain in your heart. It just warms me to imagine you hugging the bear with
Christians ashes. I have never heard of this but love this idea. Thank you for sharing your heart and know that we come here to help you have a place to let it out.

That is such a great idea... and he's so cute. The average person wouldn't know that within that bear is locked such a special item! The two (cube and bear) are so cute together. :)

I just found your blog and read everything, from the beginning until now. I cried for you and Ryan and Christian. I'm so impressed by your strength and I am so glad that you got to spend time with Christian. The pictures are wonderful and you look so happy to hold him. I am going to be more mindful not to waste any chances and to hug my little boy so much more now. Thank you for sharing.
